The 2022 Murph Challenge Day 10: Rhiannon Ahrens

“Work Hard, Play Hard”

This was the song that randomly came on during the second mile of today’s Murph. For anyone that hasn’t done a Murph Challenge, that second mile is brutal. Your body is wrecked from all the reps you just put in. As I was running through the pain, I always think of whoever that days dedication is for. I remind myself that my pain is temporary and fighters like today’s dedication experience continuous pain and challenges every single day.

That song was fitting because today’s fighter has always worked hard and continues to, despite her diagnosis, as an entrepreneur of multiple businesses. It’s hard not to think of “Work Hard, Play Hard” if you were to ask how to describe her and her husband. They are a true power couple in all that they do. They are amazing people too.

Life changed drastically for them last year when Rhiannon was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. That diagnosis means there is not currently a cure and although after 15 treatments and multiple infusions there is no new progression, she will be on a treatment plan ongoing for the rest of her life. Dreams, plans, having children, and much more have been put on hold as she continues her battle.

Her husband, Michael, is inspired by her strength each day, “even though her being diagnosed with a type of cancer thats not curable, she gets up every day living her best life. She’s a warrior. She so strong and she’s the love of my life.”

Rhiannon continues to be optimistic despite the physical and mental challenges of this diagnosis, “I will never be done fighting….everyone’s battle is different and some have made it 20 to 30 years, which my stubborn ass is praying for. At the end of the day only God really knows my plan and I trust that it will be a damn good one!”

Every Day We Fight is honored to dedicate Day 10 of 32 to a strong, hard working, and resilient Warrior, Rhiannon Ahrens.
Murph: 28:48

When I did the Murph Challenge for the first time I became hooked. Not because it was fun but because it was painful, challenging, and meaningful.

These 31 challenges are a dedication to a fighter, a warrior, a person battling that’s an everyday hero.

“The Murph Challenge is more than just a workout. It is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and allows us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor, LT. Michael P. Murphy, a man who sacrificed everything he had for our freedom.”
